Houston, Michael
As I enter my 20th year as a math teacher, I can honestly say that each day in the classroom brings a new challenge. Whether it be teaching math concepts to the students, or connecting with each student and building trust, I always look forward to cultivating, guiding, mentoring, and most importantly having fun with my students. I have been fortunate to have had an impact in and out of the classroom and look forward to making many more. In addition to teaching mathematics, I also serve as the Mathematics Department Chair, Learning Team Facilitator, and Union Steward.
Background:
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Minnesota 1999 with aspirations of playing Division 1 football. Fortunately, I made the team and played at the University of Minnesota for one season, as a walk-on athlete. After two years at the U of M, I transferred to Concordia University, Saint Paul to finish my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Education in 2004. In 2011, I successfully completed my M.A.Ed at Hamline University. I have also earned my graduate mathematics certificate through St. Mary's University/Minnesota State Moorhead.
In my free time, I work part-time as an adjunct math professor at my alma mater, Concordia University, Saint Paul.
