| | | Counseling Office Policies | | When I meet with students and families, it is important to me that our meetings feel safe to everyone. Therefore, conversations are confidential. However, there are occasions when I must break my confidentiality. If I learn that someone is hurt or is going to get hurt, I must tell someone else. I do this so that I can make sure that my students and their family members are as safe as possible. I hope this confidentiality helps you feel comfortable and safe talking with me.

My Job It is the counselor’s job to provide a safe environment for
students to express themselves. I use a variety of strategies
individualized to each student in order to meet the needs of every
individual. As a counselor, I will try to make counseling as
comfortable as possible. However, there are times when things will feel
worse before they feel better. It is my job to support the student
throughout the entire counseling process. |
Your Job It is the student’s responsibility to be interactive in the
counseling process. I believe that the student knows himself/herself
better than I possibly could. Therefore, counseling is a collaborative
effort, and the student needs to be proactive in working towards
positive goals. It is beneficial if the student can provide as much
information to me as possible. This helps both me and the student to
set clear goals for counseling. In addition, please be on time for all
sessions and notify me if you will not be coming. |
