Brief Biography of Mr. Beck I have been teaching social studies at Saint Paul Harding High School since the fall of 2003. I am married and have two kids. I am from Saint Paul and went to Groveland Park Elementary, Ramsey Junior, and Central High School. I went on to get my Bachelor's of Social Studies Education at Gustavus Adolphus College in beautiful Saint Peter, Minnesota. Go Gusties! I continued on to get my Masters of Education and, more recently, my Administrative License from Saint Mary's University. I have also taught at Humboldt Junior High for a semester and four years at Arlington High School. I enjoy both playing and coaching soccer and basketball. I am the Boys B-Squad Basketball coach at Harding.
International Baccalaureate History: History of the Americas & 20th Century Topics The IB History Course is a two year history course. In the past, the course has been taught as two independent courses, History of the Americas and 20th Century Topics. However, this course will attempt to intertwine the two courses. For example, the Second World War is investigated in both courses, first in History of the Americas addressing its effect on the Americas, and then second in 20th Century Topics which addresses the causes, practices and effects of the War. We will address subjects and topics from both courses in a fairly chronological fashion. The goal of this design was based on discussions with students and teachers to give a better chance at being successful on the IB History Exam, and in an effort to simplify the course and develop connections between world and American history. The course syllabus is at the bottom of this website below the calendar for more information about the scope and sequence of the course.
A great deal of information and various resources for this course are on Moodle. However, you will need to get the code from me to access the course.
The calendar below will have the subjects we will be investigating, assignments, activities, and due dates.
