I started working at Harding as a licensed school counselor in the 2007-2008 school year and I can honestly say it's my dream job. I became a school counselor because I want to support students and families to reach their highest potential and do all I can to soften potential barriers.
I was born in Lima, Peru and grew up in Minnesota. I speak English and Spanish, and beginning Portuguese and American Sign Language. I attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio and earned my bachelor's degree in social and global studies with an emphasis in environmental policy. It was not until the end of college that I became seriously interested in education and considered changing my major. I moved to Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico for several years to continue my formal study of Spanish while teaching English before earning my master's degree in counseling psychology/school counseling at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 2006.
I am passionate about college and career planning, creating pathways to college and post-secondary training for Dreamers, racial and immigration justice, education equity, art, dance and theatre, study abroad, general goal setting, fresh starts (the past does not define you) and new beginnings. I encourage all of my students to stop by to visit me or send me an email anytime.
Si Se Puede!
