6 Year Plan
The Six-Year Plan as a graduation requirement was approved by the Saint Paul School Board in March 2004. Each student will develop an effective Six-Year Plan that maps out a program for education during the four years of high school, and at least two years beyond.

One of the main goals of the Six-Year Plan is to create a culture of high aspirations for all students and to help motivate students through association with career goals and life planning. Naviance, the website used for the Six-Year Plan, will become an integral part of each student's electronic portfolio as he/she develops an educational and career plan. It will encourage students to become responsible for their high school education, their decisions, and commitments.

Another goal of the Six-Year Plan is to allow other student stakeholders such as parents, teachers, mentors, and counselors access to useful and individualized information: How are students doing in school, "dinner table" discussion items, class history selection, links to helpful sites on financial aid, selecting a college or program of study, interest inventories, resume writing, and many more.

All students and parents will receive a personal user name and password with instructions on how to use Naviance. through staff instruction, the following themes will be addressed by grade:
  • Grade 9: Introduction, goal setting, and focusing on developing a direction
  • Grade 10: Career/Post-secondary Education planning and focusing on me
  • Grade 11: Career/Post-secondary Education exploration and focusing on making a plan
  • Grade 12: Implementation and focusing on taking action
For graduation, students are required to complete the following:
  • About Me
  • 2 Interest Assessments
  • 2 College or Job Applications
These are the minimum requirements. Students are given time for and are encouraged to utilize the wide variety of tools available on Naviance and in the College and Career Center.
